New Product Inspires Creative Design: DacorMatch Color System

Posted by on 2015-05-05 4:13 pm in blog

By Jessica Cannon I’m always looking for new products that are a bit out of the ordinary.  So often we are using the same design elements in our kitchen designs because the styles we use are popular and everyone loves them.  Our everyday design elements consist of medium toned stained cabinetry or white painted shaker style cabinetry, quartz or granite countertops, luxury vinyl tiles or porcelain tiles, and stainless steel appliances.  You really can’t go wrong with these products in designing a kitchen.   Every now and then I get to incorporate a bit of fun and funky style into one of our designs with a client who is willing to design outside of the box. “Dacor, a manufacturer of ultra-premium kitchen appliances, is leading the smart cooking revolution with the world’s first ‘connected’ cooking appliances featuring a fully-integrated, wireless tablet – the Discovery iO 48” Dual-Fuel Range and the Discovery iO 30” wall oven (both single and double ovens).   Dacor’s Discovery Line launched a color customization options for its smart cooking appliances.  With the new DacorMatch Color System. Dacor customers can personalize their cooking appliance based on any color imaginable – just by providing Dacor with a swatch of their selected color.  In addition to the customized colors, the Dacor design team selected 10 color choices that are available without customization.  These colors include:  Blazing Yellow, High-Rise Grey, Orange Popsicle, Emerald, Tomato Red, Radiant Orchid, Sangria, Princess Blue, Bright White, and Stretch Limo. I’m ready to incorporate a pop of color into one of our kitchen remodels – I can imagine it now…a well-designed and inspired kitchen with a vivid statement of robust color.  Beautiful! “Dacor believes in encouraging customers’ self-expression not only through food, but also through kitchen design”…and so do I.   Let me, or one of our team members at FA Design Build, know if you are ready to show your true colors and incorporate a wow-factor into your kitchen design.  I can help you create a functional space that displays your self-expression with a unique twist on a classic design. Three Changes to Consider When Renovating an Old Home

Posted by on 2015-05-05 4:12 pm in blog

There is a big difference between purchasing an old home in need of renovation and a new home that is “move in ready.” If you are up for a few renovation projects, an old home may be perfect for you. This allows you to save money on the sales price, while also putting your own stamp on the property upon completing your renovation. Here are three changes to consider when renovating an old home: 1. Kitchen. You spend a lot of time in your kitchen, meaning that those old cabinets and counters have to go. No matter how much you can afford to spend on your kitchen renovation, there are products that will suit your style and budget. 2. Flooring. Do you really want to walk on that old carpet every day? Have you finally come to the conclusion that those scratched hardwood floors have no chance at survival? You may be surprised at how quickly new flooring can transform the look and feel of your home (regardless of age). 3. Knock down a wall. Most old houses don’t have an open floor plan. If this is something you desire consider the benefits of knocking down a wall to clear out space and add sightlines. This can be a big project, but with the right contractor on your side it is more than doable. If you find yourself renovating an old home, only you know which changes are most important. However, the three above are often times a good place to...

Renovating your Kitchen? Focus on These 3 Areas

Posted by on 2015-05-05 4:11 pm in blog

There is a lot that goes into a successful kitchen renovation project. Although every project is different, many people find themselves dealing with the same types of details. If you don’t know where to start, if you don’t know which areas deserve your attention, you aren’t alone. To get on the right path, focus on these three areas to start: 1. Cabinets. Let’s face it: when you swap out old cabinets for new, you are going to transform the overall look and feel of this space. When it comes to a kitchen renovation, most people start here. 2. Countertop. In today’s day and age, there are many countertop materials to choose from. Do you like the look and feel of granite? How about laminate? What about wood? Keep an open mind, as this will allow you to find the countertop that best suits your style and budget. 3. Flooring. If you like your current flooring, you can keep it the same (just make sure you protect it during the renovation). On the flipside, if the time has come for a change, consider a variety of options, such as ceramic tile, hardwood, engineered wood, and laminate. A kitchen renovation can be fun, stressful, and costly, all at the same time. Fortunately, when you turn to us for help, you can have fun, avoid stress, and save money. Contact us to learn more about how this is possible....

How to Set Up a Temporary Kitchen During Renovation

Posted by on 2015-02-24 10:23 am in blog, Design

When it comes time to take on a kitchen remodel, you will be met with both excitement and doubt. On one side of things, you are excited to see how the project will turn out and what this will do for your life. On the other side, you are worried about the scope of the renovation, including what it will mean to your life for the time being. Just because your kitchen is under renovation doesn’t mean you should have to eat out every day of the week. Here are three tips for setting up a temporary kitchen: 1. Choose an “out of the way” location for your temporary kitchen. Your goal is simple: add everything you need to a debris-free space. It won’t be as convenient as your regular kitchen, but it will do for the time being. 2. Clear some counter space. For most, this means using a table as their counter. You may not think you need this, but it will come in handy when preparing even the most basic of meals. 3. Use paper products whenever possible. When you use paper plates and cups, you won’t be stuck washing dishes. This is a big deal when working out of a temporary kitchen, as you may not have plumbing. And who wants to wash dishes in a bathroom sink? A kitchen renovation is never easy, but there are things you can do to avoid a major inconvenience. With the three tips above, you can quickly setup a temporary kitchen that will allow you to live your life during the project. Do you have questions about this type of renovation project? Contact us for professional advice and...

How to Best Choose Kitchen Counter and Cabinet Colors

Posted by on 2015-02-09 7:54 pm in blog, Countertops, kitchens

It is not uncommon to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a kitchen renovation. If you plan on parting with so much money, it goes without saying that you want to make the right design choices. With so many products to choose from, it is important to remain patient as you consider the pros and cons of each one. Here are three things to consider when choosing kitchen counter and cabinet colors: 1. Lighting. Do you have low hanging lights? How about recessed lights? What about track lighting? This is something many people neglect to consider, which leads them to make a color decision that doesn’t best suit their room. As a general rule of thumb, light colored counters are best when direct overhead light is at a minimum. 2. Flooring. Some people match their counter and cabinets with the floor, while others prefer a strong contrast. There is no right or wrong decision, but this is something to take into consideration. Note: if you are changing your flooring as well, don’t hesitate to compare a variety of color combinations. 3. Backsplash. Since your backsplash will run directly into your cabinets and counter, this is a decision you have to think about upfront. To protect against a mistake, choose your backsplash at the same time as your counter and cabinets. We know that choosing colors for a kitchen renovation project can be a difficult task. If you need any assistance along the way, don’t hesitate to reach out. We are here to provide you with help every step of the...
