Full Remodel or New Home? The Choice is Yours

Posted by on 2015-06-18 1:17 pm in blog

Have you been thinking about a full home remodeling project? Are you also contemplating the benefits of moving to a new home? If you are torn, it is time to compare the pros and cons to ensure that you make the best possible decision. While there are definite benefits of moving, such as the ability to start fresh, you don’t want to overlook the advantages of staying put. Taking on a full remodel is a good idea for many reasons: 1. Avoid the hassles of moving. Sure, you have to deal with some construction, but this is better than the hassle of moving, which includes selling your home and finding a new one (not to mention the moving process). 2. Get exactly what you want. You can decide what you want out of your remodel project, down to the finest of details. The same does not typically hold true when buying a home. Many people move, just to find that they have to remodel their new property. Why do both? 3. More affordable. This depends on many factors, of course, but there are definitely ways to make a remodeling project more affordable than purchasing a new home. If money is on your mind, this is something to consider. Over the years, we have worked with many homeowners who would rather remodel their current property than move to a new one. If you are leaning in this direction, don’t hesitate to contact us. We can help you better understand your options and which steps to...

Is your bathroom in desperate need of a renovation? If so, you have a few options. You can do the job yourself, hire a professional, or simply leave the space alone for the time being. When you hire a professional contractor, you take all the guesswork out of the process. You don’t have to concern yourself with something going wrong. Instead, you know your project will be in good hands from start to finish. On the flipside, if you tackle a bathroom renovation on your own, a few things could go wrong. Consider the following: 1. Plumbing disaster. There is a lot of plumbing in your bathroom. From the toilet to the shower to the sink, everything needs to be in good working order. One mistake here can lead to big trouble down the road. 2. Awkward layout. If you don’t have an eye for design, you could layout your bathroom in a manner that makes it difficult to get around. This may not sound like a big deal, but it will wear on you over time. 3. Selection of the wrong material. Remember, a bathroom is a bit different than every other room in your home. Water and humidity can take its toll on this space. You have to choose materials that can stand up to such conditions. If you have concerns about your bathroom renovation project taking a turn for the worst, contact us for professional guidance and assistance. We can help you realize your...

Posted by on 2015-06-03 12:30 pm in blog, Renovation

Did you bite off more than you can chew with a home improvement project? Did you move into a home when every job was completed by an amateur? While this can be frustrating, there is a solution to all your problems: hire a professional contractor. It doesn’t matter what type of DIY disaster you are dealing with, when you bring a professional into the fold it can be repaired once and for all. If you find yourself in this situation, here are three things you should discuss with your contractor: 1. The finer details of the project. Provide as much information as possible, including what you are hoping to accomplish. If you were the person in charge of the DIY project, you will know the ins and outs of the trouble at hand as well as the best solution. Be sure to convey this information to your contractor. 2. Your budget. You never want to start a project until you set a budget. You and your contractor should be on the same page from day one. This will ensure that you stay within budget, while still getting what you want in terms of the finished project. 3. Timeline. One of the biggest drawbacks of a DIY project is the amount of time it takes. You don’t want to run into this issue with your contractor. Set a timeline upfront, complete with a clear idea of what will happen each day. We have helped many people overcome a DIY disaster in the past. If you need assistance, contact us for professional advice and...

Posted by on 2015-05-26 1:47 pm in blog

A do it yourself (DIY) project sounds like a great idea. That is until you are in the middle of the project and unsure of where to turn. Rather than take this risk, you may want to consider the benefits of hiring a contractor. There are definite benefits of doing a job yourself. There is also the risk of biting off more than you can chew. If you are unsure of the reasons to hire a contractor, here is what you should be thinking about: 1. You know what you will get. For example, you can request that your contractor provides you with a portfolio and references. Not only will this prove their experience, but it will give you some design inspiration as well. 2. You don’t have to lift a finger. Let’s face it: there are times when you just don’t feel like doing a lot of work on your own. This is when a contractor will come to the rescue. Ritz Carlton like Bathroom Remodel in Ashburn, VA

Posted by on 2015-05-13 4:35 pm in Bathroom renovation

By Jessica Cannon We just completed a bathroom remodel in the Ashburn area….my client’s told me that they wanted their bathroom to look like the Ritz Carlton where they love to stay when they are out of town.  While using elegant finishes to create a “ritzy” look, like a carrara marble countertop, carrara tile in the shower and floor tile that looks like rich hardwood, there was one area that inspired me to do something a bit different for a stand out effect. Most often I tile the front of the tub deck….but I wanted to create a unique look since the face of the tub deck is the first thing you see when you walk into the double doors to the bathroom off the master bedroom suite. Our creative carpenter created custom shadow boxes for the front of the tub deck.  He also incorporated decorative base molding to tie in the custom carpentry to the rest of the room.  Adding crown molding and decorative window trim accented the custom carpentry work beautifully.  Everything was painted white to match the vanity cabinetry. We love this classy and elegant look for the front of the tub deck….let us know what you...

How to Stay Sane During a Home Renovation

Posted by on 2015-05-05 4:14 pm in blog

There are many reasons to take on a home renovation project. There are also many reasons to put this off. As you compare the pros and cons, there is one detail that will continue to sneak into your mind: your sanity. Are you concerned about the mess? Are you worried about the cost? Are you freaking out over what this will do to your life for the time being? Here are three ways to keep your sanity during any type of home renovation: 1. Plan, plan, and plan some more. The more you plan the better off you will feel as your project gets started. For example, you can set up a temporary kitchen during a kitchen remodel. This will give you some level of comfort until your project comes to an end. 2. Know your budget. Let’s face it: your stress will increase if you find that you are spending more money than you planned. Set a budget, know your budget, and follow your budget. Even though you may have to cut back on some things you wanted, it is best to stick with your budget every step of the way. This will go a long way in keeping you sane. 3. Create a timeline. You can do this regardless of who is completing the project. With a timeline laid out, you know exactly when the job is to be complete and when you can go back to your “normal” life. Do you have questions about the scope of a home renovation project? If so, contact us at your earliest convenience. We can help you keep your sanity during this stressful...
